Nassau is the lively, slightly raffish capital of the Bahamas, a working harbour ringed by pastel colonial architecture, pirate history, and a rum-soaked old town. The 65-step Queen's Staircase climbs to Fort Fincastle; over the bridge, Paradise Island keeps Cabbage Beach and the Atlantis lagoons, while Cable Beach lines the coast just west of downtown. It is busy, and unapologetic about it.
