Icy Strait Point

Whales, bears, and the world's longest zip line.

DestinationsAlaskaIcy Strait Point

A Tlingit-owned cannery port with Alaska's best whale-watching and brown bears.

Icy Strait Point is a restored cannery owned by the Tlingit village of Hoonah, a port with no town crowd, only wilderness. Point Adolphus offshore has some of the highest whale-sighting rates in Alaska; the forest behind holds brown bears; and a six-line ZipRider drops 400 metres off the mountain at speed. Refreshingly, the whole place is locally run.
